Get a large lemon or watermelon Italian ice with no lid ( it's bigger). You have to get a fry or two, I don't know what oil they use... but try and beat these fries, I'm telling you! Most importantly... although this meal is a perfect trifecta: the BEEF! It now comes in multiple sizes so choose your fancy and whether you want it plain, regular or dipped in au jus YOU can't go wrong. Then decide if you want hot peppers ( you do). This completes what will be your first of many visits to one of their two locations. Their sausage and combos are amazing as well. But they had me at beef! “ Hands down, the best Italian beef in NW suburbs. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon when I tried this small beef restaurant for the first time. The place was packed and all the tables were occupied. Ordered regular beef sandwich with hot gardinere and juicy with an order of fries. I was very pleasantly surprised that my order was ready as soon as finished paying. And mind you, the place was packed. The beef was absolutely delicious, with great flavor and very tender meat. The hot peppers packed a punch but tasty. As I said, the service was outstanding and ate my sandwich standing up by a counter on the side. Decided to try their homemade Italian ice with real lemon wedges to cool my palate. Again, it did not disappoint. If you have a taste for an awesome Italian beef, I would highly recommend this place. Can't wait to go back. ”

“ I first heard about this place through a FB post as well as on Reddit. It's been on my list for awhile, so I decided to check it last night. It's a regular size grab and go restaurant, but they do have plenty of tables to eat at. They take debit and credit cards. I ordered the regular Italian beef sandwich, combo (sausage and beef), and watermelon Italian ice. Service is very quick. By the time I received my receipt, my order was ready. I got my sandwiches with sweet peppers, juicy, and dipped. The Italian beef and sausages both have great flavor and they are not dry. Johnnie's is easily in my top 3 and I ate at a lot of Italian beef places. Skip Portillos, that's mostly for newbies who don't have a lot of knowledge. The watermelon Italian ice was delicious, so I used a bigger spoon when I got home. Prices are very reasonable. You can see in my pictures, they gave me a lot of meat. ”

“ Tasty Chicago Beef and refreshing Italian Ice Stopped by here after work for a quick dinner. They legitimately had my order ready before I could put my wallet away. There's plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, although being off a busy road. Driving in was also a bit annoying, although parking is plentiful. Staff were busy preparing for dinner and you could see a positive espirit de corps. Beef sandwich: the regular size was perfect for me, but if it was after a workout would definitely have gone after the 9 incher. It comes dipped by default, but if you want more gravy they have a bowl option for a dollar more which I'm definitely considering for next time. The peppers were surprisingly spicy and definitely need a chaser after biting into those bad boys. The large watermelon Italian ice was super refreshing and despite having a sign that said to watch out for seeds, didn't have an issue with it. Great flavor and would definitely get that over a pop any day. Can see why people come here regularly! ”
